Weight Loss Shakes, Why Use Them?

Nobody likes the idea of having to go on a diet. But let’s face it, if you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always gotten! Something has to change in order for us to lose weight.

Truth be told, using weight loss shakes is not a permanent change unless you change behavior too, so why use them? It’s quite logical really.

Let’s look at the math first. It’s a widely accepted rule of thumb that 3,500 calories is about equal to one pound of body fat. Let’s assume that you normally require 2,500 calories on a daily basis to maintain your weight. Eat more than 2,500 calories you gain weight, eat less and you lose.

Alternately, if you burn more than you usually do while still eating your normal 2,500 calories, you will lose weight, and of course, if you burn less than your normal amount you will gain weight, make sense?

So for this example let’s say you normally have 500 calories for breakfast, and 1,000 calories each for lunch and dinner. If you replaced your breakfast with a 70 calorie shake, you would consume only 2.070 calories in a day. If you replaced your lunch as well, you would only be consuming 1,140 calories daily. The math says you will lose weight. What if you added exercise too?

Now, remember they key is to change your behavior because you don’t want to lose weight only to gain it back again, do you? No one likes to have three different sizes of clothing in their closet to wear depending on where they are in their diet cycle.

Using weight loss shakes can be an advantage if you use the time to consciously train yourself to change your eating and your thinking habits. Sometimes we eat for many reasons other than hunger, you know I’m right. You’re less likely to give in to urges when you are focused and feeling successful than any other time. Use this to your advantage.

Imagine that you have lost your first ten pounds. You are starting to feel better, your clothes fit a little better and you’re encouraged. You get an added amount of will power, don’t you?

Imagine further that you’ve now been able to lose even more weight, I won’t give a number because it’s different for everyone, but you’re feeling a little cocky about your weight loss success. You’re really feeling good because not only have you been losing weight, but you’re been giving your body the nutrition it needs even while you’ve been restricting your caloric intake. Maybe you’ve even started exercising some too. Doesn’t it feel good? How likely are you to eat something at this point because you’re depressed? How likely are you to be depressed? That should make you think.

It’s important to give your body the nutrition it needs, and to do that supplementation is the best way, especially when you’re restricting calories. Many people find that once they start making better choices in regard to their health, including weight loss, they not only feel better over all, but some of the things that have ailed them have gone away, or are much less of a problem.

Weight loss shakes are a great way to jump start you on to the path to your new habits. They can also be a good pick me up once you’ve reached your goal weight and find you are still working on changing your habits to maintain and not gain weight again.

Whether you use one or two a day for meal replacement, and how long you do that, depends on your own weight loss needs and goals. No one but you can say how much and how long, but I can tell you that if you do use them, they’ll work for you.

And remember, it took you a long time to gain the weight, what makes you think you can lose it all in a short time? Your body is an amazing and highly adaptable wonder. Take care of it.
